Location
This beautiful red barn is located in Ririe, ID at 7N Ranch. Head East on Heise Road, pass the hot springs, and it's on your right.
Access
I would assume this road has some clearance issues in the winter but I'm not sure. This is a resort so they may have things pretty clear if they are open during the winter season. They have a spacious parking lot at the red barn. There is gravel so it wouldn't be very wheelchair or stroller friendly unless you've got someone strong enough to push.
Photography
Obviously the gorgeous barn is a perfect backdrop for family pictures, senior portraits, engagements, etc. The surrounding landscaping is mostly grass with large trees. There are some steps on one side of the barn with smaller foliage.
Exploration
If you do some research you'll find hiking trails, the hot springs, and the well known pizza parlor. Cress Creek is a nice nearby hike and Twin Bridges Campground is a nice location if you like staying in the outdoors. 7N Ranch Resort has a lot of great amenities as well like tubing in the winter, mountain biking, golf, fishing, and horseback riding!
Best time of year
I imagine this is a wonderful location most of the year. I would love to try a shoot here in the winter, the only issue could be access. It's perfect for Spring, Summer, and Fall!
Time of day
This location is ideal for late afternoon and evening sessions during golden hour. The barn creates a wide open shadow that gives even light while the hills are illuminated in the background. If you shoot late enough in the evening the lighting that falls through the large trees is gorgeous!
Respect nature and property
Remember to always respect nature and property. Abide by private property signs and practice Leave No Trace when you visit someone's land and do not disturb wildlife. This particular location has a vintage truck on the back side of the barn. It is really cool looking, but the owner told me that visitors (especially children) have damaged it in the past and specifically asked that no one climb on it. I'm grateful for such wonderful clients who followed these rules for this beautiful location.
